# RPG a Day 2023 - Day 12: Oldest Game You Still Play tags: #thoughts/RPGaDay/2023 ![[RPGaDay2023.png]] The funny thing about this question is that – firstly, most of the games that I play are either very, very new or surprisingly old. I am a connoisseur of the technology of games. Not just video games but the tabletop experience in toto. It's something that there is consistent, frequent development in an ongoing way. Provides a certain bias. If we are talking about the immediate past, the answer is probably **[[5150 - New Beginnings|5150:]]** from [[Two-Hour Wargames|THW]]. It's probably the gateway drug which started aligning my consciousness with solo-play RPGs, inheriting from a much longer drive to GMless games. I think the new term for **5150** would be "[[adventure wargame]]," but it's essentially a hybrid of wargame and RPG. [[Ivan Sorensen]] cites another game of close design from the same publisher, **[[NUTS!]]**, as inspiration for his own work. I love science fiction, I love the hybrid format, I've been into the mechanics since the first time I played **[[All Things Zombie]]**.
