[Someone on Mastodon actually had an interesting idea](https://dice.camp/@thegiftofgabes/110810709091977136). Take [[Dungeons and Dragons|D&D]] sheets, as written, but implement a fiction-first [[Ironsworn]]-like mechanic for resolution.
So a *Strength* test would be basically roll 2d20 versus *Strength* looking to roll under.
> 2 successes: Congratulations, you get what you wanted. Tell us about it.
>
> 1 success: You succeed but there is a complication, tell us about what it is and why it's a problem.
>
> 0 successes: You fail and don't get your intent, tell us about how that happens.
All the rolls would be player-facing.
Spellcasting would be roll 1d10 versus the Level of the spell you want to cast (roll over). A failure means you can only cast one more spell from the highest Level spells that you have so you knock out ranks as you go.
I suggested that there should be no HP mechanism but instead damage should be just a standard Constitution or Wisdom check as previously described, but one success should be "tell us about how you are injured and how it impairs you," and zero successes should be "tell us about how you are disabled until someone can provide you treatment."
I'm thinking about it and I think this would actually make a very playable game.
