# Panic at the Dojo - Fight On! tags: #thoughts #game/rpg/panic-at-the-dojo #game/rpg/eternal-contenders Ever have one of those moments where serendipity kicks you repeatedly in the crotch? That's been my week. One of the great advantages of having a swarm of machine consciousnesses constantly combing the net for things that I would be interested in is sometimes they actually succeed. You've probably noticed that I like to find unusual roleplaying games with strange and perverse mechanical choices. They do things in an unusual way, coming from an unusual direction. Well, I've got another one of those. ![Panic At The Dojo: A Tabletop RPG For Fighting Game Fans (New Challenger)](https://youtu.be/9gib72XuA3A) It's not often that I stumble over an RPG that makes me momentarily reconsider my devotion to GM-less gaming to the point where I might consider actually running a game of **[[Panic at the Dojo]]**. And yet here we are, with me flipping through the book and enjoying the glorious cheesiness of the art, being fascinated at a quick glance by the mechanical system, which very much is entirely focused on doing one thing and doing it well, and thinking how easy it would be to put something together with the same kind of narrative structure as a tournament fighting game. Yes, there was [the White Wolf version of **Street Fighter**](https://archive.org/details/StreetFighter-TheStorytellingGameCompleteCollection). Truth be told, the less we talk about that, the better. Word is that a second edition of **Panic** may see the light of day around the end of August, which is a shame for me because I'll be at [DragonCon](https://dragoncon.org). On the positive side, deadlines are known to be a very plastic thing in the RPG universe, so perhaps I don't have to worry about catching it a little bit late. It has been whispered to me that people who pick up first edition may get a price break on second edition, and that would suit me just fine. It's the sort of thing that I want in hardback in my collection on my display shelf, simply because it's unique enough and interesting enough. It probably deserves to hang out there right alongside **[[Eternal Contenders]]**. Yes, I will get around to talking about **Eternal Contenders** at some more considerable length at some point in the future. For now, enjoy thinking about how you might run a fighting game-focused tabletop experience. Where would the story take you, and what would you be able to carve away if you didn't have to worry about all that *pesky common sense?*
