I don't necessarily mean just your science fiction games. It's broadly applicable there, but I mean more than that. Particularly in fantasy settings with at least some degree of accessible magic, communications is going to be something that your empires, kingdoms, and depending on accessibility tribes, find vital to their military operations. - *Are there entire regiments of volunteer or enslaved psykers kept on hand for message passing?* - *Do enchanters create ruggedized crystal balls to provide for communications with units in the field?* - *Do battle mages spend time in the HQ putting together the proper sets of runes to maintain situational awareness with military leadership back in the capital?* - *Wouldn't such magically enhanced military personnel make great targets for assassination, kidnapping, or voluntary extraction?* - *Or maybe they operate as mercenary free agents – or are they? Perhaps they are intentional plants by some enemy force left to be employed by the OpFor so that they can leak intelligence?* There's a lot of fun to be had here if you are devious enough. Be devious.
