# NUTS! Core, Compendium, and Quick Play on Sale Today tags: #thoughts #game/wargame/nuts ![[NUTS (cover).png|300]] ![[NUTS Quick Play (cover).jpg|300]] You know what? While I'm being the entirely unpaid shill out here today,[^1] not only do we have some other great stuff available, but Two Hour Wargames has the *[[NUTS!|Nuts!: Compendium and Quick Play]] combo* on sale on WargameVault for $18. https://www.wargamevault.com/product/453198/NUTS-Compendium--Quick-Play-Combo?src=DotD&from_home=1 If you were looking for a nice, solid, man-to-man, squad-to-company scale tabletop wargame for World War II, Nuts is a pretty good choice, particularly the core book with the compendium is amazing, given the amount of stuff that it covers in the relatively small space. I suppose technically this even counts as shilling for myself, though it didn't occur to me until this very moment, since I did an editing pass and a little bit of writing for the *Quick Play* rules. (Look, I can only stand LMGs being broken for so long.) For the record, I don't get a cut of any of these sales. So does it really even count as shilling yourself? You might wonder why I have this tagged with *Adventure Wargame* as well. And I'll give it to you straight: because by my analysis, this is actually one of the first games that qualified to be referred to as an adventure wargame in the sense that it's meant now. You can play this as an extremely military-focused, mission-focused RPG for your "main character." Work your way up the ranks from being a private and surviving long enough to get promotion after promotion until you're in charge of the company—if you live that long. The section entitled "Coffee and Cigarettes" within the main core book itself is essentially cut-down RPG mechanics for doing things like going into town and carousing, getting yourself into some trouble, and getting yourself out of some trouble. They describe a very lightweight, near general-purpose RPG system in just a few pages. If you're interested in World War II and want to find another way to push lead, chits, or miniatures made of resin around on a map while following and getting invested in the lives of the people and some of the characters involved, it's going to be hard to do better than this at this price point. Seriously. [^1]: What else am I out here shilling for today? Well, I'm glad you asked! How about **Final Frontier** from The Red Room? ![Final Frontier from The Red Room](https://x.com/squidlord/status/1950937419634631117) Or **Kuroi** from Candlenaut, the creator of **[[Entity]]**? ![Kuroi by Candlenaut](https://x.com/squidlord/status/1950946833095709157) Or **Sweeping Satellites**, a complex board game from the Dietz Foundation? ![Sweeping Satellites from the Dietz Foundation](https://x.com/squidlord/status/1950794885864325212) Look, it's been a really good day for cool stuff coming out, which is bad for our wallets, but good for our souls, or what passes for them. And yes, this is essentially an entire post in and of itself within a footnote. Welcome to the wild world of weird layout decisions.
