# Grand Narrative 40k Event - What Else Might Leverage Those Ideas? tags: #thoughts/event-design #game/wargame/warhammer-40k #game/wargame/5150-total-war ![https://youtu.be/eSoEBBTxfuQ](https://youtu.be/eSoEBBTxfuQ) This is such a cool idea. A massive convention event which is centered around wargaming but the goal is not, necessarily, to win your games – it's to tell a story, to weave a series of events which are just cool, it everybody shows up to engage with that and have a good time. It's essentially an RPG except "your character" isn't "a guy" but is an entire group and you're not expected to win every conflict you engage in. You're expected to make interesting decisions and entertain yourself and everyone around you in the creation of this story. A story that hasn't been written before you experience it. It's a story that emerges from the events that happen on the table. This sounds really cool. The problem for me is that there's no way I'm going to have a 3000 point army of anything painted up nicely and ready to go to a public event, as fun as it sounds. Of anything, not just **[[Warhammer 40k]]**. Though I wonder if it would be doable to suggest such a thing at a bit of a smaller scale using a more generic set of mechanics? It's not like I don't have a pile of them which would be likely suitable. It would be convincing enough other people to bring, say, a platoon of some force or other for such an event. It is, surprisingly, more like a [[LARP]] in my mind. I'll bet you could organize the underlying event borrowing some conceptual structures from LARPing fairly successfully. I'll have to meditate on this. **[[5150 - Total War (wargame line)|5150: Total War]]** is the obvious first grab from my bag for this one. I'm just going to hang a reminder to think about this and maybe write more about it later.
