# Fantasy World - PbtA Fantasy Adventure Done Right?
tags: #thoughts #game/rpg/fantasy-world

I'm not really a big fantasy RPG guy. Just not my thing. But I appreciate that a lot of other people are and are looking for tools to explore that space.
Before today, I hadn't heard of Fantasy World, which is a [[Powered by the Apocalypse|PbtA]] fantasy game that puts all its bits on the table, shelves them forward, and says "how do you do?"
It looks *interesting*. The way that it's phrased, the way that it's put together, the way that it gives instruction looks intriguing. It's very direct.
It's a lot more explicit for the GM in terms of what they do and what they don't do, which can sometimes be a real problem for PbtA-derived games.
(It's GMfull, which is a mark against it in my world but I know a lot of you really enjoy a more traditionally architected play experience.)
If you're interested in a game which is notably more Sword and Sorcery than high fantasy, where violence has some pretty serious repercussions (healing is hard, damage is easy), maybe it's something you want to look at.
I'm tempted but the price point is a little bit high for my admittedly collection-driven urges. $20 for a PDF is a bit much.
However, if *you* are looking for a new TTRPG that does fantasy in a different way than you're used to, leans more toward the gritty than the epic, structures and gets buy-in from the players on what the party is together to do…
This might be exactly what you're looking for. Tight mechanics, good tone, and it looks quite nice.
The rough and ready nature of the developer's video speaks directly to my soul and I really appreciate that kind of interaction.
