I was thinking about my lengthy (and intricate) response to this post on Twitter and letting things churn in my head.
Go read the thread, I'm not replicating it here this time. You'll like it, I promise.

I do find it terribly amusing that anytime someone comes up with any kind of obscure hybrid setting concept, I can reach into my bag of RPGs and pull out a reference to someone who has already done it and then keep coming up with multiple suggestions for ways that you might want to deal with it, but which mainly boil down to some sort of **[[Ironsworn]]** or *[[Blades in the Dark|Forged in the Dark]]* variant these days.^[For the last, see **[[A Fistfull of Darkness]]**, because it's awesome.]
Once upon a time, my go-to mechanical system was **[[Over the Edge]]**, but they managed to completely screw that up in aggressive, annoying ways by shifting away from what made the system good.
Though you still can get your hands on the good part by just looking at the **[[WaRP System SRD]]**.
These days, it generally comes down to **Ironsworn**/**[[Ironsworn - Starforged|Starforged]]** if you want a truly modern game design or **[[Wushu]]** if you still want to hold on to the idea of centralized authority in a GM.
It would be **[[Capes]]** if it was still available for sale anywhere because I love that game, and it's a wonderful GM-less experience. But here we are.
For extra comedy value, I literally live and sleep in an RPG library. There are thousands of books, not just in this room, but spread throughout my house, and more in storage.
Nearly all of them — well, 60% of them — are RPG or RPG-adjacent. The term "first edition printing" actually means something to me, and I have a whole table full of things which are showpieces.
This is usually where I say, *"I have wasted my life,"* but you know what? I really haven't. I know things about the hobby and about game design which have been lost for decades. I have been exposed to both the best and the worst that the hobby has to offer.
This is interesting information, no matter what, even if it does mark me out as a complete geek. I can live with that.
What a wild, strange trip it's been.
