# Alternate Take: Predator as Starting Scenario

You know how sometimes you're just reading through your recent RPG acquisitions and two things collide in your brain? I've been reading a lot of [[Character Creation Challenge 2024 - Day 13 - Those Dark Places|dark, industrial space gaming stuff]] lately and decided to shift gears and read **[[Perseverant]]**, which is essentially a collaborative storytelling game about surviving in a hostile environment.
It's extremely story game.
But then everything collated in my brain as a friend mentioned:

> Predator is filmed in Mexico, has the characters navigating with a map of Brazil, is later claimed to be set in Guatemala, is claimed by many fans to be set in the fictional Central American nation of Val Verde (but that's probably fanon, it's not actually stated anywhere), and the Wikipedia article says it's set in Central America in the top portion and then claims it's set in South America in a later paragraph. Personally, I think the real setting of Predator is the friends we made along the way.
And my immediate psychic jump was to:
> I'll bet you could run Predator in **Perseverant**.
What would that look like? Well, the scenario sheet would look like *this*.

## Predator
*A team of commandos, on a mission in a Central American jungle, find themselves hunted by an extra-terrestrial warrior.*
### Nature
**South-Central America:** The jungle. Wet, green, deadly. Tiny villages carve out some kind of life but mainly its mud and trees and vines.
### Era
**1987:** The Cold War. Communists. The brutal hangover from Viet Nam.
### Goal
**Hunt the Hunter:** The alien predator is hunting us through the trees. Hunt him harder.
