# Witchery for Starforged: World Truths Edition
tags: #game/rpg/witchery #game/rpg/starforged
**Witchery for Starforged** is the **World Truths Edition** of a witch-flavored supplement for **[[Ironsworn - Starforged|Starforged]]** — a port of **Witchery** (the fantasy witch game by **Levi Kornelsen**) into Starforged's own "truths" vocabulary, with **additional content by Nixon Kraken**, all assembled into this edition by **Colin Calamaras**. Both sources sit under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, so the whole thing is an open fan adaptation: not an official Ironsworn product, and it's careful to say it's not affiliated with the original Witchery product either.
As a "World Truths" edition, its job is to hand you the **setting assumptions** you'd swear a vow over: **Setting Assumptions**, **On Essence**, **Who Witches Are**, and the shape of the world's magic — **Covens**, **Hearths**, **Beasts**, **Spirits**, and **Wonders and Gods**. The folkloric framing is deliberate and consistent, from the start.
## The Witchy World
**Who witches are** is the through-line: witches are born with a talent, and only those whose ancestors were witches may become witches — talent can develop at any point in life, but it's inherited, not chosen. The book leans hard on folkloric assumptions rather than modern fantasy tropes. It even takes a small stand on vocabulary: the energy witches channel is best called **essence** (or **quintessence**/**aether** if you're going wizardly), while **mana** is dismissed as a modern alteration of a Polynesian term that isn't really "witchy." That's the book's voice in miniature — precise, opinionated, and grounded in folklore.
## The Witchy Game and Its Mechanics
The gameplay side covers the stuff of running a witch: **Steadings** and **Hearths** (the places and home-fires witches build around), **downtime** between supernatural work, and a set of **system components** — **Boons**, **Degrees of Success**, and a risk mechanic called **The Dangers** — plus a casting example to show how it all lands on the standard Starforged action roll. **Character creation and progress** includes an alternative creation path, how you **gain spells**, and a full **spell creation** system (worked through an example spell, **Brewing Fire**). At the center of spellcasting sit **Boons** organized as **Twelve Elements**, **Six Arts**, and **Six Conduits** — with the twelve elements (Air, Beast, Blood, Dream, Earth, Fire, Hearth, and the rest) each getting notes and "basic measures," including a chapter on **The Deliberate Absence** for what the magic refuses to do.
It's a rich, opinionated witch supplement that plugs straight into Starforged's truth-and-vow structure — a genuine, properly-licensed fork of Kornelsen's Witchery rather than a thin reskin.
