# Warrior Heroes tags: #game/adventure-wargame/warrior-heroes ![[Warrior Heroes (Adventures in Talomir) (cover).jpg|600]] You can't save the world; you can only afford the next adventure, and that's the honest deal on offer. **Warrior Heroes** is Two Hour Wargames' sword-and-sorcery adventure wargame, and it's where the fantasy face of the reaction engine actually gets to be a story. You take a small band of adventurers into a high-fantasy sandbox adventure by adventure, watch your hero make **Fame and Fortune** or surrender them when the dice go sour, and let the campaign keep score — solo, co-op alongside yourself, or head-to-head against whoever's willing. ## Setting The stage is **Talomir**, a fantasy world of over forty races and nations, from the grimly human to the outright monstrous, with a politics to match. You run a **Band** of characters you built yourself, tracking the progress of your **Star** — the one with the light bookkeeping and the plot armor — through adventures and campaigns, banking **Fame and Fortune** on the wins and paying for it on the losses. It plays with the included counters and battle boards or whatever miniatures you already own, and it'll happily run solo, same-side co-op, or head to head. Its own pitch is disarmingly direct: "Do you have what it takes to be a Hero?" ## Mechanics Warrior Heroes runs on the **[[Chain Reaction|Reaction System]]**, tuned up with the fantasy bits THW keeps for its adventuring games. ### The reaction engine Turn order runs on **Activation Dice** rather than strict I-go-you-go: each side rolls 2d6 against a leader's **Reputation**, and the side that passes more becomes **Active** and activates its figures and groups before the other side takes its turn — the two going back and forth until everyone eligible has activated and the dice roll again to start a fresh turn. Higher Rep gets you to the front of that queue, and an **Initiative** trait counts a figure's Rep higher for Activation purposes. The **taken-versus-Rep** 2d6 check resolves what you attempt, and the **In Sight** reaction test decides who fires first when anyone comes face to face mid-turn. It's the reaction rolling that makes a solo game feel like a firefight instead of a solitaire list. ### A Band of adventurers You're not a single ronin — you field a **Band**. Your **Star** carries the plot armor and the attribute ledger; the **Grunts** around them are the mechanical masses who obey the reaction tests. Fantasy lists, Attributes to make each character distinct, and a spread of character classes round out what you can field, and different editions tune how much detail you get. ### Levels of crunch The **Crunchy** add-on (the "WHAT" enhancement) layers on more granular Melee, Shooting, and Interaction mechanics, plus Knightly Endeavors, Random Events, Combat Perks, legendary characters to fight (or fight as), and interlinked encounters for town — *a little more detail in your games*, per the book, and usable all, some, or none of it. ## Editions ![[Warrior Heroes - Armies and Adventures (cover).jpg|400]] ![[Warrior Heroes - Legends (cover).jpg|400]] - **Warrior Heroes: Adventures in Talomir** — the current, most-recent edition of the line and the one to go with: a Band of adventurers exploring Talomir on the reaction engine.
