# Vampire: the Masquerade

**Vampire: The Masquerade** is a tabletop roleplaying game that lets you embrace your inner bloodsucker and navigate the treacherous waters of undead politics. Because apparently, eternal life isn't complicated enough without adding bureaucracy to the mix.
At its core, the game uses a d10-based system where players roll a number of dice equal to their Attribute + Ability, aiming to meet or exceed a difficulty number. Successes are counted, and more successes mean better results. It's almost as if counting your victories is as important as actually achieving them – how very vampiric.
The game has gone through several editions since its initial release in 1991. The second edition (1992) and revised edition (1998) made minor tweaks, while the third edition (V3 or V20, 2011) consolidated much of the expanded material. The fifth edition (V5, 2018) stirred things up with major changes to the setting and mechanics, including the controversial addition of "Hunger Dice" – because nothing says "vampire" quite like rolling special dice to see if you lose control and eat the mailman.
