For those of you who find counting past six to be a strenuous mental exercise, Gallant Knight Games has you covered. This is a "minimalist" roleplaying game, which is developer-speak for "we wrote a ruleset on a napkin and it was good." You play as a **Survivor** (or a **Mutant**, **Scavenger**, **Normal**, etc.) in a post-apocalyptic hellscape where the most complex math you’ll do involves subtracting 1 from your ammo count—if your GM even bothers to track that. The book is essentially a smorgasbord of micro-settings, meaning if you get bored of nuclear winter, you can flip a few pages and die in a robot uprising instead. It’s perfect for people who want the _Mad Max_ aesthetic without the hassle of consulting a table to see which limb they just lost. ## Core Mechanics The system runs on the _TinyD6_ engine, a resolution mechanic so simple it almost loops back around to being suspicious. ### The Test To do anything where failure is interesting (or fatal), you roll **2d6**. If either die shows a **5** or a **6**, you succeed. That’s it. You don’t add stats, you don’t consult a chart, you just look for a high number. ### Advantage If you have a relevant Trait, gear, or the GM is feeling generous, you roll **3d6**. You still only need one **5** or **6** to succeed. ### Disadvantage If the situation is dire, you’re injured, or the universe just hates you, you roll **1d6**. Good luck. ### Combat You get two actions per turn. Attacking is just a standard Test. Weapons are categorized into Light Melee, Heavy Melee, and Ranged, each with minor differences in range or hands required. Damage is usually **1 point** per hit unless you have a specific ability that says otherwise. You have a small pool of Hit Points; run out, and you die (or stabilize if you're lucky). ### Experience You don't really "level up" in the traditional sense. You might gain a new Trait every few sessions, or increase your HP, but don't expect to become a demigod. You're just trying to not die slightly better than you did yesterday. ## Edition Changes There appears to be only one primary edition of _Tiny Wastelands_, released in 2018. While the _TinyD6_ engine itself has seen tweaks across different genres (like _Tiny Dungeon_ 2nd Edition), this particular book stands as a singular entity. There is a "Revised" version of _Tiny Frontiers_, but _Tiny Wastelands_ seems to have escaped the revision cycle thus far, remaining in its original, irradiated form. ## References If you wish to acquire this tome of simplicity or read the opinions of others who have engaged with it: - [Tiny Wastelands Product Page - Gallant Knight Games](https://shop.gallantknightgames.com/products/tiny-wastelands?_pos=2&_sid=cd4f9cbd3&_ss=r - [Tiny Wastelands PDF - DriveThruRPG](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/246020/Tiny-Wastelands) - [Review of Tiny Wastelands - RPGGeek](https://rpggeek.com/rpg/53629/tiny-wastelands)
