# THW Turkey Shoot tags: #game/wargame/turkey-shoot ![[THW Turkey Shoot (cover).jpg|600]] It was Thanksgiving, and Mordecai was told to "go get a turkey." Seemed simple enough. **Turkey Shoot** is Two Hour Wargames' two-page solo Thanksgiving game, and the pitch is disarmingly literal: you are a Pilgrim with a musket, and the object is to shoot the Turkey for dinner. Everything a THW game normally asks of a table — Reputation, the 2d6 reaction roll, the game playing the opponent — is here, just shrunk to a Pilgrim, a bird, and a holiday dinner that isn't going to cook itself. ## Setting A cluttered 3' × 3' table of bushes, trees, and patches of clearing. The Turkey starts in the center and the Pilgrim enters from any edge. The Turkey is a creature of pure instinct: it only moves when the noisy Pilgrim comes within 12", and it would very much like to get off the table entirely. The Pilgrim just wants dinner. ## Mechanics Pure THW reaction engine in a two-page bite. The Pilgrim and Turkey each roll a **Reputation**; the Pilgrim can move up to 8" (half speed through woods and rough terrain), and the Turkey reacts the moment he comes within 12", rolling on the **Turkey Reaction Table** — taking flight, running for cover, or standing there acting like a turkey. The musket (8" range, fired once per turn) rolls **2d6 versus Rep** on the Shooting Table: score a hit and you may just get "Suppertime!", miss badly and the bird goes berserk and you're on the **Crazy Bird Table**, where Pilgrim and Turkey trade reaction rolls and the Turkey may simply bowl you over. **You win if you get the bird; the Turkey wins if it exits the table.** ## Editions - **Turkey Shoot!** (2014, Ed Teixeira / Two Hour Wargames, LLC) — the original two-page Thanksgiving one-off. *In the library.* ## References - [Two Hour Wargames](https://twohourwargames.com/)
