# SurgeProtectors tags: #game/rpg/paragon-surgeprotectors ![[SurgeProtectors (cover).jpg|600]] **SurgeProtectors** is Sean Nittner's synthwave action-cartoon on the **[[Paragon]]** engine: it's 1984, Earth is under attack by a silent invasion of transforming robots from another dimension, and the only thing standing in their way is a second group of transforming robots who've disguised themselves as period-accurate cars, mopeds, and cargo freighters. It's *Transformers* by way of the decade's own aesthetic — Earth's hidden defenders, keeping their cover so the full-scale invasion never has a reason to start. ## Setting It is 1984 and Earth is under attack from a silent invader. **Emperorions** — mechanoids from the **MetalWarp** dimension — use their Gravimetric Beacons to launch **Incursions** into our reality, emulating human technology to hide among us while siphoning Earth's natural resources to fuel the conquest of MetalWarp and fulfill the ancient prophecy of destruction, **THE SURGE**. Humanity would perish if not for their own rogue MetalWarp champions — the **Surge Protectors**, inorganic life forms who merge between two states: a robot warrior and a machine that looks and functions exactly like its 1984 counterpart. To blend in, they take the form of everyday vehicles, from a moped to a cargo freighter, always with the twin goals of keeping their identity hidden and protecting humanity from the **Wire Empire**. ## Mechanics The book is upfront that it runs on the **Paragon system, found in the AGON roleplaying game**, with specific changes noted. Your **Vehicle Form** takes the place of the Epithet — both your disguise among humanity and your best means of transportation — and the rest is the shared **[[Paragon]]** contest machinery: die-rated traits, Domain-flavored contests, opponent pools, one-roll resolution.
