**Steel Rift** is a fast-paced skirmish game where humanity’s remnants duke it out with highly configurable mechs called HE-Vs. Set in a future where solar flares have done a number on civilization, players battle for resources, order, and, let’s be honest, a bit of glory. The game is played on a 3’ x 3’ table, making it easy to set up almost anywhere, even if your living room is a mess.
## Core Die Resolution Mechanics
The core mechanics of **Steel Rift** revolve around a straightforward yet strategic die resolution system. Players roll a pool of six-sided dice (D6) to determine the outcomes of their actions. Each action, whether it’s moving, attacking, or using special abilities, requires a roll against a target number. The number of dice you roll and the target number depend on your mech’s stats and the specific action you’re attempting. Successes are counted based on the number of dice that meet or exceed the target number, with more successes leading to more effective outcomes.
## Editions and Changes
The game has seen a few expansions, each adding new layers of complexity and options. The **Burning Horizons Expansion** introduces on-table support assets, progressive campaigns, and the ability to salvage damaged mechs. Meanwhile, the **Close Quarters Expansion** brings melee weapons and upgrades into the mix, allowing for some up-close and personal mech brawls.
