**Star Trek Adventures: Captain's Log** is the standalone solo RPG Modiphius spun out of [[Star Trek Adventures]] — a complete, streamlined version of the **2d20** system you can play alone, cooperatively with friends, or with a gamemaster. Where the main game runs a whole crew, this one hands you the captain's chair and a blank log to fill in: you create an original character and use the book's guidance and random tables to generate episodic Star Trek stories, one log entry at a time. Do you think a space-based solo TTRPG on mechanics you already like would escape the garden's grasp? You would be terribly wrong.
## Setting
The same franchise promise, pointed right at a single character. Play in any era of Star Trek, from the 21st century to the 32nd, as any kind of character — not just a Starfleet captain, though that's the headline pitch. You build (or randomize) your own starship or starbase, and then each session runs as a mission logged in the captain's voice. The book carries a Star Trek primer covering society, technology, and the eras of play, so you don't need anything but the one rulebook to be off the dock.
## Mechanics
It's the **2d20 system** streamlined into a solo engine — you roll two twenty-sided dice under a target built from an attribute and a skill, count successes, and read them against a difficulty, exactly as in the main game, with the **Fill values** and Momentum economy tuned for a lone player rather than a table. The solo structure leans on the book's **100+ random tables and storytelling matrixes** — alien worlds and polities, allies and enemies, mission themes, maintenance downtime, and the rest — to drive a story that "promotes drama in a safe space." The 2026 edition's ruleset incorporates the collected errata since the first book, so it plays as the current, cleaned-up version of the game.
## Editions
- **Captain's Log (First Edition)** — **2023**, Modiphius. *In the library* (the DS9-cover copy, plus its supplemental and sheets).
- **Captain's Log (2026 Edition)** — **2026**, Modiphius. *In the library* (the *Solo RPG 2026* core + supplemental). A new edition with a brand-new cover and an updated, errata-incorporating ruleset — the content is the same game, freshly tuned.
## Supplemental
The **Captain's Log: Supplemental** is the box's bonus PDF — essentially the book's deleted Chapter 7 plus the *Lower Decks* ships, shipped to fill the gaps a tight page count and pre-release licensing left behind. It carries a large set of **Mission Prompts**, each a ready-made solo seed with a title, an opening log entry, possible encounters, prompt questions, and suggested conflicts — the content cut late in development to keep the book to a manageable size, now handed back to you — and the **Star Trek: Lower Decks starship spaceframes**, which couldn't make it into the print book because the *Lower Decks* rights were secured after production wrapped. *In the library* (a copy accompanies both the 2023 and 2026 editions).

> One Weird Fact: The Modiphius 2D20 System really reminds me of **[[Ironsworn]]** and **[[Ironsworn - Starforged|Starforged]]** in a weird way.

> You commonly roll 2D10 versus a stat plus any adds and compare the total to each of the dice independently in order to generate a strong hit, a hit, or a miss.
>
> 2D20 effectively works the same way, except with a larger linear range, which means that small differences don't mean quite as much.

> I'm not sure I'm completely on board with the way the stats fall out, but I don't hate it.
