Released under the system's CC BY 4.0 license for **[[Ironsworn]]** — and, thanks to the shared engine, just as usable with **[[Ironsworn - Starforged|Starforged]]** and **Sundered Isles** — it wears its influences on its sleeve (**[[Ars Magica]]**, the d20 family, *Baldur's Gate*) with a clear thesis: magic in Ironsworn is mechanically a handful of asset triggers, and it wants to give that magic texture you can actually do something with. A worthy goal — pursued with the fan-supplement economy's signature inability to add just one of anything: five custom assets, a chaos-magic subsystem, four quest starters, and enough oracles to generate a spell and its sequel. ## Creating Spells The heart of the book is **do-it-yourself spellcraft**. You lay down a base for a spell and fill the gaps with as many **spell oracles** as you like — name, effect, and additional tables that hand you the "how" of a given bit of magic on the fly. It's an oracle-first approach that fits the engine's solo-and-improv DNA perfectly: instead of a fixed spell list, the tables *produce* the spell. On top of that sit five **custom assets** (two adapted from Ironsworn, three new, each with core and Starforged variants) to play as the kind of caster the book enables. ## Chaos Magic The signature mechanical flourish is **Chaos Magic**, a bonus system inspired by the **cursed die** from **Sundered Isles**: a way to layer unpredictable side effects onto any spell so that casting always carries a little risk of the supernatural going feral. It's optional, and it's the difference between magic that always does what it says and magic that occasionally does something you didn't ask for. ## Quest Starters Four **quest starters** round the book out — *Siege of Thornspire*, *Crimson Vines*, and *Ice Maiden* among them — each written to lean on a suggested new asset, complete with threats, artifacts, and positive and negative resolutions. They're usable as-is or as ready-made inspiration for any other game. ## Editions - **Spellforge: Magic for Ironsworn** (2024) — the main book plus print-friendly and asset-card editions. *All in the library.* ## References - [Spellforge: Magic for Ironsworn — DriveThruRPG](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/485799/spellforge-magic-for-ironsworn) - [Spellforge: Magic for Ironsworn — Itch.io](https://rockpaperstory.itch.io/spellforge)
