**Runners in the Shadows** is a love letter to fantasy-cyberpunk mashups, marrying the *Shadowrun* aesthetic of magic-meets-technology dystopia to the **[[Blades in the Dark]]** Forged in the Dark engine. You play a crew of shadowrunners — mercenaries, hackers, and magic-users — pulling runs in a neon-drenched underworld where the digital and the arcane blur together. It's the inheritor of the FitD engine that keeps the heist-and-faction structure while swapping the Victorian-industrial gloom for cyberpunk chrome and spell-slinging.
The core is the same Forged in the Dark action roll: roll a d6 pool equal to your action rating and take the highest die — a **6** is a full success, **4/5** a partial success with a complication, **1–3** a failure, with multiple 6s a critical — shaped by position and effect, and softened by stress and resistance. It layers on the expected cyberpunk trappings: decking, edge, trauma, and the faction game of fixers, turf, and claims, with playbooks like the Face, Hacker, Muscle, Punk, Rigger, and Snake. If you want *Shadowrun*'s flavor without its famously baroque rules, this is the leaner, FitD-flavored take.
