# Polaris: The Wish We Wish to Night tags: #game/rpg/polaris ![[Polaris - The Wish We Wish to Night (cover).jpg|600]] **The Wish We Wish to Night** (2014, Ben Lehman) is a supplement for **[[Polaris - Chivalric Tragedy at the Utmost North|Polaris: Chivalric Tragedy at the Utmost North]]**. Where the core is a tragedy of a people, this is a tragedy of time itself: it opens on "Moments Frozen at the End of Space," trades the knights' starlight for the cold gravity of black holes, and asks what a story looks like once the ending has already happened. Everything it adds is in service of that colder, stranger grief. ## What it adds - **Errata and clarifications** — a short list of corrections to the core, mostly housekeeping: every Theme must keep at least one Aspect, the Moons' veto on Aspect expenditure can usually be waived, and the book's advice not to ask for things you don't want in play is really a rule. - **Knights of Dark Stars** — an alternative character creation: play a knight named for a real candidate black hole, with new opening Aspects — **Knight of a Dark Star** (Office), **Sword of Invisible Light** (Blessing), **Timeless** (Ability), and a shared Fate of **Undo the Mistake**. A name list of candidate black holes supplies the titles. - **New Aspects** — the **Hierophant of the Calendar** (Office); the Blessings **A Thing Which Is Beautiful** and **A Thing Which Is Not Beautiful**; the Fates **Swallow the Sun** and the person **Aurora, Enfant of the Winter Sky**; the Abilities **Timeless**, **Eidetic Hunger**, and **Incomprehensible**. The beautiful/not-beautiful pair quietly bend how Experience is rolled — the whole supplement in miniature, finding mechanical weight in beauty and despair. - **Advanced techniques** — **drawing the blow** (inviting a riposte without formally entering a conflict), running multiple protagonists in one conflict, and a compressed method for finishing a full story arc in a single short session. ## Editions - **The Wish We Wish to Night (2014)** — *In the library* (id 2404). A single edition. ## References - [Polaris: The Wish We Wish To Night — DriveThruRPG](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/155727/polaris-the-wish-we-wish-to-night)
