# Machinas tags: #game/wargame/machinas ![[Machinas (cover).jpg|600]] Two Hour Wargames straps a V8 onto the Reaction System and points it down a post-apocalyptic straightaway. **Machinas — Death Races in the Wasteland** is a vehicle-vs-vehicle combat and racing game where armed cars rip through a broken world before a massive crowd. It's the THW family's nod to the car-combat genre — death races, passing plays, and the roar of engines drowning out the roar of the crowd. ## Setting The wasteland is the track and the crowd is everywhere: "the roar of the engines drowned out the roar of the crowd, 100,000 voices." You field armed machines — the Infernals and their rivals — in death races where getting to the front matters as much as what you do when you get there. There's no world to save; the goal is the win, the glory, and survival to the next race in the same battered frame. ## Mechanics It runs on the **Chain Reaction / THW Reaction System** (Reputation, **2d6 taken-versus-Rep**, the **In Sight** reaction test), pointed at vehicles instead of figures. The rules are all about pace and position — a **Turn Sequence**, an **NPC Position Table** to judge whether an opponent is in position to pass, and the cut-and-thrust of racing as combat. It's the same engine as the foot-level THW games, just with a lot more horsepower. ## Editions - **Machinas: Death Races in the Wasteland** (2014) — by Carmen Cerra & Ed Teixeira. *In the library* (original and revised reprint). - **Machinas Addenda** and the print-and-play **Decks** (01/02/03) and **Add-On Deck**. *In the library.* **Machinas** is a **[[Two-Hour Wargames]]** game from the same [[Chain Reaction|Reaction System]] family as the rest of the line. ## References - [Two Hour Wargames — Two Hour Wargames site](https://twohourwargames.com/)
