Where the original was a lean folk-horror pack, the Revised Edition opens up into a fuller setting treatment: wandering exorcists, cursed warriors, and lost souls in a realm of spirits, curses, and karmic fate. Same Chance-vs-Risk oracle and tag-based engine — it just got more room to breathe and a proper cultural appendix. ## Setting The revised edition keeps the feudal-Japan supernatural premise and expands it. Character generation and names get fuller treatment, the setting gets its own chapter, factions and creatures-and-foes rosters grow, and a generous block of adventure tables feeds the oracle-driven session. It closes with a cultural-insights appendix and a glossary that take the folklore seriously rather than treating yokai as a flavor sticker. The tone is still dreamlike and eerie — the ghost story under the polite surface of a warring-clan world. ## Mechanics The engine remains the shared Loner Oracle: roll a Chance die against a Risk die for yes/no, read ties as "Yes, but…," and let the Twist Counter bend the story. Kwaidan Revised adds genre mechanics for a realm of spirits and karmic consequence, the factions and foes that populate it, and the expanded tables that keep a solo session from running dry. As a revised edition it's more a deepening than a mechanical upheaval — the core engine hasn't moved, which is either restraint or stubbornness, same as the line as a whole. ## Editions Two editions exist: the original **Loner: Kwaidan!** (2023) and this **Revised Edition** (2025), which has its own entry.
