**Ironsworn: Oathbound** is R Ferguson's contribution to the hobby's refusal to let any game just be what it is — a homebrew supplement that bolts an ongoing skirmish-and-party-management system onto **[[Ironsworn]]**, on the theory that the sworn-vow dark fantasy engine secretly wanted to be a tactical wargame this whole time. The pitch is blunt: you lead a band of sworn allies against an increasingly hostile new land to put an end to what besieges it — and the book opens by warning you that **you will fail**. It's a campaign layer for people who love Ironsworn's vows but want a little more crunch and progression when they're tired of heavy lifting: manage supplies, agonize over whether to engage an enemy, risk loss, and pass up loot you desperately need. Enemies have behaviors and support one another with tactics, so each fight is less an abstract move and more a battlefield you have to read — who to eliminate first, and how to reach them.
It requires the **Ironsworn** core book and the **Delve** expansion, and it admits its debts plainly: the author cites the solo skirmish books **Five Leagues from the Borderlands** and **Scarlet Heroes** as the biggest inspirations, and the text is open that it leaned on AI for artwork and playtesting support. The result is a deliberately meatier, token-moving, "open the Augur and push miniatures around" session in between the fiction-first vows.
