So, you've inherited something. Not money, or a charmingly rustic cabin, but a terrible, world-altering power and all the baggage that comes with it. **Inheritors** is a game about the joys of discovering your family was into things far more sinister than just passive-aggressive holiday newsletters. You play one of the titular inheritors, grappling with a strange legacy that's probably trying to get you killed, possessed, or at the very least, socially ostracized. It’s a delightful romp through generational trauma, but with more tentacles.
The core of the game is the "Matched Die System," a mechanic that ensures even your successes are interesting, and probably a little bit cursed. When you attempt something that might actually matter, you'll assemble a pool of d10s. You then roll them and desperately search for matching numbers. The quality of your outcome is determined not by adding numbers together—that's for optimists—but by the sets you roll.
- The **Width** of the set (the number of dice showing the same face, like three 8s) determines how well you do the thing. A pair is a success, but barely. Four of a kind means you've succeeded with a flourish.
- The **Height** of the set (the number on the dice, like the "8" on your three 8s) determines the specific consequences. A high number might grant you a useful side effect or a narrative advantage. A low number will likely introduce a complication, because why should anything be easy?
