# Elegy ![[Elegy (cover).jpg]] So, you've decided to embrace the darkness and become a creature of the night, have you? Well, look no further than **Elegy**, the solo RPG that lets you live out your vampiric fantasies without the inconvenience of having to find other people to play with. Inspired by the likes of **Vampire: The Masquerade** and **Vampire: The Requiem**, this game plunges you into the seedy underbelly of a modern city, where you'll have to navigate the treacherous politics of vampire society, all while trying to keep your insatiable bloodlust in check. It's all the brooding and melodrama you could ever want, with a healthy dose of existential dread thrown in for good measure. The core of **Elegy** is its die resolution mechanic, which has seen some changes between its editions. In the v3.5 version, which is heavily based on the **[[Ironsworn]]** system, you roll two ten-sided dice (2d10) and compare them to one of your five stats (Force, Dexterity, Glamour, Intellect, or Heart). If your stat is higher than both dice, you get a "strong hit" and succeed with flying colors. If it's higher than only one die, you get a "weak hit" and succeed, but with a cost. And if your stat is lower than both dice, well, you get a "miss," and things go horribly wrong. You can also "burn focus" to improve your chances, because even vampires need a little luck on their side. The v4 playtest, on the other hand, streamlines things a bit. Instead of comparing your stat to two dice, you now roll 2d10 and add your relevant attribute (Body, Mind, Charm, or Soul) and any bonuses to the total. A result of 15 or more is a "Stylish Success," where you're in complete control. A result of 10-14 is a "Flat Success," where you succeed, but with a cost. And a result of 9 or less is a "Failure," where you've lost control of the situation. The "focus" mechanic has also been replaced with "Rush," which you can use to improve your rolls, but which can also work against you if it's negative. It's a subtle change, but one that makes the game feel a little less punishing and a little more narrative-focused. ## References - [Elegy - The Official Website](https://elegy/) - [Elegy on DriveThruRPG - Where to Buy](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/456053/elegy) - [Elegy on Itch.io - Where to Buy](https://miraclem.itch.io/elegy) - [Reddit discussion on Elegy - r/Ironsworn](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ironsworn/comments/1dbhwh4/anyone_playing_elegy/) - [Elegy Playtest Review and Example Playthrough - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPQCMAQqBXw) - [RPG Freebies: Elegy, A Rules-Light Solo Vampire RPG (PWYW) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElesEKV9P70)
