**Boundless** is Fari RPGs' open-licensed d6 dice-pool engine for peril-fantasy play — a lean, hackable core that Fari hands out as a free SRD under the **Open RPG Creative License (ORC)**, then builds its own games on top of. Depending on how you count it, it's either a generous bit of hobby largesse or a long-term bet that an open engine will grow a family; the family is small so far, but it's already got the shape of one.
The system's whole personality is "bark and bones": fast rules, deeply rooted consequences, and a death spiral that makes you feel every decision. It's deliberately built to be reskinned — take the core as-is, or hack it into something new — which is the point of an ORC-licensed SRD.
At the top of the family sits the **[[Boundless SRD]]** (the two-page core), and beneath it the first full game built on the engine, **[[Boundless Tides]]**.
## The System
Boundless resolves with a d6 dice pool where **5 or 6 is a Hit**. Characters hang four attributes — **Strength, Agility, Presence, Willpower** (assigned 4, 3, 2, 1) — off a small chassis: Hit Points set by Strength and Agility, a **10-Slot** inventory that doubles as a Condition track, and a **Position** ladder (Absolute → Good → Standard → Bad → Impossible) that tunes what counts as a Hit.
Checks roll dice equal to the relevant Attribute: 2+ Hits is success, 1 is partial, 0 is failure with a cost — and you can **PUSH** to reroll your Misses at the price of a Fatigued Condition. Harm chips at Hit Points or fills Slots with Conditions; at 0 HP or a full belt of Conditions you make a Critical Save, and Misses on it start carving down your attributes. Recovery comes via Short and Long Rests, and magic simply happens — then you roll Willpower and possibly pay in fatigue.
Rounding it out are **Pools** (Usage, Event, and Strain), which track resources and pressures as shrinking dice sets, and **Fortune Rolls** for yes/no questions when the odds feel anything from very likely to very unlikely. It's a system that fits on two pages and still manages to run a full session's worth of consequence.
## Member games
- **[[Boundless SRD]]** — the core rules / system reference (free, ORC-licensed). *In the library.*
- **[[Boundless Tides]]** — the dark-fantasy pirate game built on Boundless: cursed seas, desperate crews, and Pools-driven pressure. *In the library.*
## Editions and licensing
There's no edition sprawl yet, though the core hasn't stayed frozen — the library holds the rules as a version-family of distinct revisions rather than a single text re-laid-out for different paper. The **Core Rules A4** runs the 4-attribute build (Strength, Agility, Presence, Willpower), while the earlier **Boundless (Pages)** and **Boundless (Pages, v2)** run a separate 3-attribute revision (Strength, Dexterity, Willpower) on a different Slots-and-Hit-Points chassis. Boundless Tides has likewise run through its own set of Pages/Spreads revisions. All of it lives under the **Open RPG Creative License (ORC)**, with the core PDF given away free and a full licensing page on the publisher's site. If the market eventually decides to grow this into a proper family, the open foundation is already there; until then, it's a very hackable engine and one game that will teach you how to break it.
