# Blades Under Tyr tags: #game/rpg/blades-under-tyr ![[Blades Under Tyr (cover).jpg|600]] **Blades Under Tyr** is the fan hack nobody made you beg for: **[[Blades in the Dark]]** transplanted wholesale into Athas, the desert death-world of TSR's **Dark Sun** campaign setting, and it works far better than it has any right to. It's a Forged in the Dark game through and through — mechanically all Blades — that just happens to be wearing Dark Sun's costume, so in practice it's a little of both. Greyorm's 139-page brew takes the scoundrels-and-scores engine and points it at **Tyr**, a "wretched hive of scum and villainy" under the tyrannical thumb of a sorcerer-god — a union so natural you wonder why no one official ever tried it. ## Setting Tyr is a post-apocalyptic desert city: the safest oasis for hundreds of miles, ringed by god-king–warded walls against the monster-haunted wastes that cover the rest of the world. Within, the noble houses scheme for power, merchant caravans hold water hostage for **chits**, thieving elves fight over scraps, and everything answers to the **Templars** — the de facto rulers enforcing the will of the King from his Golden Palace. A dark sun rises over the city each morning; two strange moons hang in a foul-colored sky. You're a scoundrel who just wants a piece of it — water, food, safety, a fistful of ceramic — before the sands claim your bones. It captures Dark Sun's grim scarcity and Blades' criminal-enterprise greed in the same breath. ## Mechanics It's the **[[Forged in the Dark]]** engine under a hot sun: the d6 action-roll pool, position and effect, stress, resistance, and the score/downtime/faction loop, with **playbooks for scoundrels and crews**, **40+ factions**, and rules for the nine districts of, around, and under the city. What sets it apart is how natively it adapts Dark Sun's signature powers: **defiling** (drawing life from the wasteland itself) and the **psychic powers of the Way**, plus rules for braving the open wastes beyond the walls. The author notes you don't strictly need the Blades core book to play — everything's in here — though a copy of the first-edition Dark Sun boxed set adds setting color. ## Editions - **Blades Under Tyr** — Greyorm's fan-created, personal-use **[[Blades in the Dark]]** hack for the Dark Sun setting, released free / pay-what-you-want. *In the library* (v1). ## References - [Blades Under Tyr — itch.io](https://greyorm.itch.io/blades-under-tyr) - [Blades Under-Tyr: Dark Sun hack for Blades — announcement thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/bladesinthedark/comments/1skvjmn/fitd_blades_undertyr_dark_sun_hack_for_blades/)
