**Action 12 Cinema** is a GMless, solo-playable, fiction-forward tabletop RPG that uses only the d12 as its randomizer — a celebration of the most underutilized die in the hobby. **Action 12 Cinema** is explicitly aware of itself as emulating movies and moviemaking, leaning into tropes, three-act structure, and stylistic meta-decisions, and it shares some structural DNA with the **[[Blades in the Dark]]** Forged in the Dark games — position, stress, and a push-yourself move — even though its core resolution is a different beast.
The resolution is a **count-successes d12 dice pool**, not the FitD "take the highest die" mechanic. Each die is read individually: a **1** is a Setback (subtracts from your net successes), **2–7** are blanks, **8–11** are a Success, and a **12** is a Heroic Success that counts as two successes and can explode (reroll to add more) or be banked for a teamwork "Heroic High Five." Play is divided into **Obstacles** requiring a set number of successes to resolve, with a "Pushed to the Limit" move that turns a 1 into a 12 once per game — a nod to the FitD push-yourself idea, but run through a success-counting pool. It's a single-book game (printed January 2024) that wears its cinematic inspiration on its sleeve.
