# Action 12 Cinema ![[Action 12 Cinema (cover).jpg]] tags: #game/rpg/action-12-cinema **Action 12 Cinema** is a GMless, potentiallo solo-play, fiction-forward tabletop role-playing game which only uses the D12 as a randomizer. Since the D12 is an underutilized tool in the greater scope of mechanical systems, I can only support this underlying idea wholeheartedly. In terms of resolution, it shares a clear inspiration from the [[Blades in the Dark|Forged in the Dark]] games, effectively being a dice pool system in which a 1 is a Setback (a failure), 2 through 7 have no effect, 8 through 11 is a Success, and a 12 is a Heroic Success which can count as two normal successes or can explode to add another die to the pool – which may itself be a Heroic Success or a Setback which would reduce the level of overall success. Similar to a mechanic in **[[Wushu]]** and **[[Capes]]**, the play of the game is divided into Obstacles which require a certain number of Successes in order to progress through them and be able to narrate results. Reminiscent of **[[Hong Kong Action Theater]]**^[The first edition which was good, not the second edition which sucked.], A12 is explicitly aware of itself as emulating movies and moviemaking in the course of play. Repeated references are made to tropes, three act structure, and stylistic meta-decisions found in movies. A12 went to print on January 11, 2024 and should be available non-Kickstarters very soon. ## Links - [The Kickstarter](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/therpgacademy/action-12-cinema/description): Act One, Scene One -- go!
