The 5150 universe's answer to drifting off the map and calling it a living. **5150: Fringe Space** (Joseph Beutel & Ed Teixeira, 2015) is the **[[5150]]** line's fringe-space adventure wargame — not a wargame about holding ground, but a character-and-band game about making your Fame and Fortune out on the edge and, eventually, retiring comfortably. It's the adventure side of the line, in the same family tree as **[[5150 - New Beginnings]]**, sharing its profession-by-class character setup but running its own quiet scorekeeping economy.
## Setting
You're a Fringer on the outskirts of the settled galaxy — building a band, working jobs, and trying to keep your reputation going long enough to get out. The 5150 races are all here (**Grath**, **Hishen**, **Razor**, **Xeog**, **Zhuh-Zhuh**, and the Basic), with a **Home World** (ring, sector, planet class), a **Class** from the same pulpy spread New Beginnings draws on (**Movers**, **Shakers**, **Exotics**, **Joes**, **Criminal Element**), **Professions** and jobs, **Social Standing**, age, and family ties. It's a solo- and co-op-friendly adventure register rather than a competitive table.
## Mechanics
The engine is the **THW Reaction System** — **Reputation** and the **taken-versus-Rep** 2d6 — run as a tabletop skirmish with minis or counters. The twist is how progress is tracked: instead of cash and bookkeeping, the game uses a **Rep d6** to tell you how well your character is doing, keeping the "how am I doing?" question to a single die rather than a ledger.
### Character & band
You build your **Star** or **Grunt** (race, attributes, class, profession, weapons, **Body Armor**, and **Items** — is it a **Game Breaker**?), then **Recruit a Band** of allies, organize into **Groups** under **Leaders**, and take the whole crew through the **Turn Sequence** and combat — charging into melee, ducking back, picking up the wounded, reloading, shooting — on the standard reaction tables.
