As our protagonists ride up on the town, it's soon clear why: the rich soil deposited at the turn of a nearby river makes for excellent cattle grazing land, providing more meat and hide in one place than the Free Wardens may have seen in weeks. There is a certain ceremonial air about the village. Clearly, this was a place of ritual significance at one point. Now, however, the inhabitants seem particularly jumpy, eyeing the Wardens with a mixture of distrust and a strange hope.
