# RPGaDay 2026 - 01 - Discipline tags: #thoughts #thoughts/RPGaDay/2026 ![[RPG a Day 2026 (illo).jpg]] I suppose it's time to rock and roll with **RPG a Day**. I've put it off for an additional month, so let's start digging out of that hole, shall we? It's just after 1 a.m. on the first. It's week one with the topic of drive. The day of week is full of grace, and our daily topic is discipline. Am I going to put all three of those things together in a single post? Well, drive and discipline is easy. Those two go together naturally. Tuesday's child is full of grace. Grace, drive, and discipline. Let's see, let's see. Seems an obvious prompt for some character generation, doesn't it? We'll just get a jump on October's **[[Character Creation Challenges]]**. I feel like it's too early to start going with loner character creation, so let's break out **[[Ironsworn - Starforged|Starforged]]** and put together a character appropriate to our prompt. I'll bet you're thinking I'll go through the entire truth system first and establish an entire setting and then build a character to go in it. We're not going to do that. Instead, just assume that the background is **[[Traveller]]**.[^1] --- # Talia Sedano ![[01 - Discipline - Talia Sedano.jpg]] **Backstory:** You abandoned your kin after learning a troubling truth. ## Stats | **Edge** | **Heart** | **Iron** | **Shadow** | **Wits** | | -------- | --------- | -------- | ---------- | -------- | | 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 3 | ## Status Tracks | **Resource** | **Current** | **Max** | **Reset / Spent** | | -------------- | ----------- | ------- | ----------------- | | **Health** | 5 | 5 | - | | **Spirit** | 5 | 5 | - | | **Supply** | 5 | 5 | - | | **Momentum** | 2 | 10 | Reset: 2 | | **Experience** | 0 | - | Spent: 0 | ## Vows | **Vow** | **Rank** | **Progress** | **Resolved** | | ------------------------------------------------------------ | -------- | ---------------- | ------------ | | **I vow to hunt down my parents and bring them to justice.** | Epic | 0 / 10 (6 steps) | False | ## Legacy Tracks | **Track** | **Ticks** | | --------------- | --------- | | **Quests** | 0 | | **Bonds** | 0 | | **Discoveries** | 0 | ## Assets ### Gunslinger (Path) *If you wield a pistol…* - [x] When you *Enter the Fray* by facing off against your foe (+heart), or by preparing to act without tipping them off (+shadow), add +1 and take +1 momentum on a hit. On a strong hit with a match, you may immediately take a shot (without making a move) and mark progress twice. - [ ] When you *Gain Ground* or *React Under Fire* by moving into cover, add +1. On a strong hit, this cover gives you leverage; add +1 when you make a move to attack or defend at range. If you then score a miss, the cover is lost or compromised. - [ ] When you *Compel* or *Gain Ground* with the threat of violence by holding someone at gunpoint, add +1 and take +1 momentum on a hit. ### Artist (Path) - [x] When you make a move to craft an artistic work, present an artistic gift or performance, or leave your artistic mark on an item or location, you may reroll your action die if its value is less than your spirit. On a strong hit, take +1 momentum or +1 spirit. - [ ] When you *Gather Information* or *Secure an Advantage* by studying the aesthetics of a being or culture, add +2. - [ ] When you create or perform a significant artistic work as a public memorial or tribute, roll +the stat which best represents the work's nature. On a strong hit, the work will stand the test of time; mark 2 ticks on your bonds legacy track. On a weak hit, its impact is short-lived; mark 1 tick instead of 2. On a miss, the work is ignored, misunderstood, or co-opted, and you must Pay the Price. ### Starship (Command vehicle) **Name:** Orestes **Status track:** 5 / 5 - [x] Your armed, multipurpose starship is suited for interstellar and atmospheric flight. It can comfortably transport several people, has space for cargo, and can carry and launch support vehicles. When you *Advance*, you may spend experience to equip this vehicle with module assets. - [ ] When you *Finish an Expedition* (dangerous or greater) in your starship and score a hit, this journey strengthened your ties to your ship and any fellow travelers. You and your allies may mark 1 tick on your bonds legacy track. - [ ] When you *Withstand Damage*, you may roll +heart. If you do, *Endure Stress* (-1) on a weak hit or miss. ### Sleuth (Path) - [x] When you *Swear an Iron Vow* to solve a murder, disappearance, theft, or other mystery, make the rank of the quest no greater than formidable. Then, when you *Gather Information* in the course of the investigation, roll three challenge dice and choose two. If any challenge dice match, you must use those values. On a miss with a match, envision what you learn of a deepening conspiracy or betrayal, make the rank of your quest one higher (no greater than epic), and use the new rank when marking future progress. - [ ] When you make a move to avoid detection as you put a person or place under surveillance, add +1 and take +1 momentum on a hit. - [ ] When you *Make a Connection* with a potential informant, you may (instead of rolling) take an automatic weak hit. === - **Look:** A slight woman in her late 20s with dirty blonde hair, dark gray eyes, and the build of a lifelong spacer. - **Act:** Deeply guarded, almost paranoid. Despises betrayal, hers or anyone else's. - **Wear:** Human standard for whatever part of the Imperium she happens to be in. Almost always wearing heavy black gloves. - **The Orestes:** A beat-up light cargo ship which carries just enough weaponry to discourage pirates without necessarily being able to stop them. Purchased at a suspiciously cheap price. The exterior is marred by rust and grime, clearly a ship that's seen some better days. - **Gear:** Spacer kit. Beat up old projectile pistol, which looks as rough as the ship. Black weighted gloves, which are in pristine condition. Investigator Talia Sedano was born neither on the Rim nor in the Core Worlds, but in that hazy area somewhere in between. Her home world was devoted largely to agricultural operations, and her parents were active in import/export. It came as some surprise when they abandoned her just before her 17th birthday and went on the run when Imperial investigators showed up to look into their business dealings. Which apparently had gone to fund several small terrorist organizations. Talia herself was appalled and devoted herself to proving her worth and swore to track down and bring her parents to justice. One of the contacts she made along the way offered her an excellent deal on a beat-up cargo ship which used to belong to her parents' business. Whatever that business was. Eventually, Talia will close in on those who betrayed her, followed closely by justice.
